What to do

When you go to Malta, you also get the chance to visit Gozo and Comino and all three have things to offer. We start in the capital of Valletta, where the waterfront at sunset is spectacular. Perfect for eating and drinking the night away, there are plenty of things in the day to get your thirst up. St John’s Co-Cathedral is an amazing place and a treasure trove of a religious site. There is so much more to do with Manoel Theatre, Casa Rocca Piccola and Lascaris War Rooms just the tip of the iceberg.

There are also a lot of great outdoor water activities to be enjoyed in a coastal place like Malta. Just make sure you pick up some holiday accident compensation to ensure the safest trip possible that doesn’t end up costing you an arm and a leg!

If you’re into vintage cars then a trip to the Malta Classic Car Collection is a must. Similarly, the world heritage site of Hal Saflieni Hypogeum is amazing and the Mdina Old City is a medieval gem – arguably one of the best examples of ancient walled cities.

Getting the ferry to Gozo is an adventure in itself. But, when you get there consider the spectacular blue hole, see if you have time for diving, don’t forget the rough nature of the azure window and the workshop at Connect 2 Gozo. The citadel in Victoria is stunning and the Marsalforn Valley gives you a chance to get off the main island. You could even take a day trip to go and see Sicily

Culture

With 7,000 years of history there is plenty of architecture and scenery to passionately explore. It was around 5,000 years ago during the Neolithic period that Malta had its golden years. This is shown with various temples and the later occupation of Cathaginians, Romans and Byzantines gives more to see. It is, unsurprisingly, a very Mediterranean culture.

Traditional food is seasonal and rustic. Recommended dishes include the fish pie, rabbit stew and ratatouille Maltese style is a great option. If you have a Sunday morning free then head to the Marsaxlokk fish market.

It is a hugely religious country and this leads Maltese people to be traditional in terms of norms and values. A Catholic country, Sunday’s are around mass and they are hospitable and helpful people to be around. Traditional trades and festivals are on the increase and they take their wine very seriously.
