Things to Do When You Have 5 Days in Oslo

Book for flights to Oslo

Oslo in Norway is one of the loveliest cities in Europe, which is why flights to Oslo are in great demand. No matter what time of the year you visit, Oslo will always have something unique and exciting to offer. Situated at a striking fjord and contained by mountains and forests, the city makes a perfect destination for everyone. It gives a touch of what busy cities are made of at the same time as providing natural sights. If this is your first time to visit the city, here is a sample itinerary for a 5-day stay in Oslo:

Day 1: Art and History

Begin your tour at the heart of the city in Frognerparken. This is where you can find more than 200 impressive sculptures of the famous Norwegian artist, Gustav Vigeland. The park, known as Vigeland Park, contains works of art depicting entwined lovers, elderly couples, and even angry beggars. Just a few steps from here is the Oslo City Museum, which was built in the 18th century during the Viking era.

You can spend the rest of your day in Gamlebyen, which means Old Town. If you are a history buff, you will love this place because it paints a picture of how Oslo was before. The town has numerous landmarks, but the most notable is the Norwegian Folk Museum. This is the biggest open-air museum in the country.

Day 2: Go Shopping

There are supermarkets and stores in Oslo where you can find everything you need. The Vestkanttorget Flea Market can be your first stop where heaps of cheap stuff are available. For your clothing needs, there are many designer clothing stores in Oslo, particularly in Skovelen. One is Hassan Og Den Dama where shoes, jewellery, and apparels are created by Scandinavian designers. There are also garments from other well-known designers. Norway Designs is another store you shouldn’t miss. Watches, glassware, clothing, and even stationeries can be found here. Other stores to visit are Husfliden, an arts and crafts shop, Rimi Supermarket for food and drinks, and the Oslo City Shopping Centre for some mainstream shopping.

Day 3: Relax and Have Fun

Vinmonopolet is a store where you can buy beer as long as you are at least 18 years old. Have some friends over at your place and enjoy the night. If it is too early for that, go to Anker Brygge where traditional Norwegian meals are served as well as beer. You can view the harbour from here.

Day 4: Be Entertained

Den Norske Opera is one of the city’s finest opera company. Visit them to watch an opera, classical concert, or ballet, which they host every month. Blå, a prominent jazz club is for those who enjoy jazz music. If you are into live music while surrounded by a young crowd and some cheap beer, drop by at Olympen. Otherwise, head to Spasibar, a bizarre cowboy-themed bar. There is live music, beer, food, and a beautiful garden to behold.

Day 5: Complete Tour

To make sure you won’t miss other hotspots in the city, join a few trips such as the Oslo Mini Cruise. This takes about 90 minutes where you get to witness the beauty of Oslo’s waterfront. There are also boat or ferry trips that operate daily. The Langayene Island is a must-see especially during the summer months. Taking in the sights is the perfect way to end your 5-day vacation in Oslo.

When to book for flights to Oslo depends on your preference. Both winter and summer seasons buzz with activities all day long. The city simply has a lot to offer to travellers prepared to brave one of the northernmost places in Europe.
