The Windy, Not So Noisy, Isle!

Fuerteventura

If you want to cast all your cares away to the wind, the perfect place is Fuerteventura. Known as the windiest of the Canary Islands – don’t let this put you off! Fuerteventura is charmed with 3000 hours of sun a year – so whenever you go, you’re almost guaranteed good weather.

For a good old sunshine break, this is the island for you. Regular flights leave the UK in summer, with fantastic fares available. Airport extras can be booked to lower your price further, and cutting your stress-levels! Give Birmingham airport parking a try, and see how much you save.

The island is famous for huge sand dunes and long beaches, yet also steeped in history. As the oldest of the islands, it was volcanic thousands of years ago – giving some of the landscape an eerie lunar appearance, and quite something to see.

Relaxation is the key here, with plenty to chill you out and leave you stress-free before you have to go back to the hum-drum of 9-5.

Corralejo in the north is a popular resort, with a charming old town and harbour to explore – sit with a drink in one of the small cafes and watch the world go by. The resort has become increasingly touristic and therefore has the usual fare of water-sports and excursions – why not jump on a boat for a trip to Lanzarote, seeing two islands in one holiday? Save some money with airport parking and put it towards a little adventure!

Playa La Clavellina is a great beach for families, with plenty to keep the kids entertained, or alternatively, for soaking up the rays with a good book. The sand dunes around this area form part of a nature reserve, and are fantastic to see.

Of course thanks to the windy nature of the island, windsurfing and other such sports are hugely popular, and the island hosts an annual professional windsurfing event in July in Sotavento. This is a great event to see, however if you want things a little less busy, maybe avoid this time!

An alternative resort is Caleta de Fuste, with a pretty sheltered cove, fantastic for families. The centre-point is the large, sweeping beach, again with many water-sports on offer. You can even have a camel ride!

For somewhere a little quieter, try Costa Calma – calm by name and calm by nature. Here you will find many pretty beaches and facilities, together with hotels offering budget to luxury accommodation. The main focal point is the Sunday market – haggle a good deal for souvenirs to take home, be a little cheeky and see what price you get!

Getting around the island is relatively easy, with many taxis available and a good bus network running between resorts. The capital, Puerto Del Rosario, is accessible by bus. Here you’ll find shops and a central bus station, taking you all over the island – a great opportunity to explore!

When your day on the beach comes to an end, shower, change and head out to sample the island’s varied nightlife. From cafes and restaurants to bars and nightclubs, there’s something for everyone, with international cuisine for even the fussiest palate.

If you’re after a pure sunshine beach break this summer, Fuerteventura is a certain consideration. Many good value deals can be found, with added extras again making the cost a little lower, give Bristol airport parking a go for convenience.

Why not blow the cobwebs away this summer in Fuerteventura?
